Review: Dogville

Going in, the only detail I knew was ‘minimal scenery’ and three hours later I had experienced a film literally like NO other. If you’re familiar with black box theatre (I actually was), then this is black box cinema. It’s a lot of ‘see for yourself;’ hard to explain. You couldn’t ask for a better cast. Honorable mentions to Patricia Clarkson and James Caan. Bettany and Sivegny could have used work, but Kidman was a powerhouse as the gamechanger, Grace; I’m beginning to love her work, between this and Eyes Wide Shut, as of recent. It’s three hours long, but it has a lot to say. From the revealing title cards to the hurts-so-good climax, Dogville is a must for any lover of experimental cinema. I mean experimental.
